She avoids getting into a car with her drunk boyfriend ‘Evan’, Courtney received a notification stating that she has broken the ‘user agreement’. On returning home, she was attacked by an unseen entity and was killed as her timer reaches zero. At the same time, Evan crashed and a tree branch goes right through where Courtney would have sat.

Quinn Harris, at the hospital where an Evan is admitted, a nurse that works there, suffers sexual harassment by her boss ‘Dr. Sullivan’, but fears speaking out as she has only just passed her exam to be a Registered Nurse. Quinn stumbles across Evan in a closed-off wing of the hospital where he told her about ‘Courtney’ and his suspicions about the app. He also says he downloaded the app, also he states that he will die at the time he is due to go into surgery. Quinn is contemptuous of his claims but eventually downloads the app after her co-workers download it. She is terrified to learn that it says she has only three days left. Evan skipped his surgery and is informed that he has violated the ‘user agreement’ of the app. He is attacked by a demonic version of Courtney and is killed.

Plot

Quinn went home to pick up an important document and met her younger sister ‘Jordan’ who has a strained relationship with her, following their mother’s death. The next day, Quinn heard of Evan’s death and found his phone. She canceled a plan to go out with her sister and their father before being informed that she has broken the ‘user agreement’. She was harassed again by Sullivan before fleeing. Quinn did a research about the app, she learned of Courtney’s death. And that similar things have happened to other app users, although they are regarded as fake.

She is scared by a vision of a dead Evan and left her apartment. She is found the next day by her sister, who learned about the app which states that Quinn only has one day left. Quinn bought a new phone but discovered the Countdown app has installed itself on the new phone. After she was attacked by a demonic figure, she encounters Matt, whose Countdown app states that he will die a few hours before Quinn.

They both head to the hospital to get help from the hospital’s priest only for Quinn to realize that Sullivan has tricked the staff into thinking that she sexually harassed him; as a result, Quinn is suspended from the hospital. Matt is attacked by the entity taking the form of his brother who died of an illness years ago.

Plot

Courtney and Matt left the hospital and began to suspect that something in the user agreement may help them. It states that the agreement is broken if the user tries to change their fate, they both realized that they have canceled plans [Quinn’s trip with her family and Matt taking a train ride] that would result in their deaths. They consulted a priest called ‘Father John’ who states that the app’s code may help them. They hacked into the app with the help of Derek, the phone salesman who sold a new phone to Quinn, and learned that Jordan has downloaded the app and it will die shortly before Quinn. Derek adds more years to all three of their life spans. However, Quinn was attacked by the demon later that night and the countdowns revert to their original times.

After Jordan was attacked by the demon who took the form of her mother, they consulted Father John, who points out the demon is called the ‘Ozhin’ and placed a curse via the app code. Father John said the curse can be broken if someone dies before their countdown ends or lives after.

The countdown timer needs to be beaten by one second in order for them to win. They prepared a warding circle to protect them from the demon’s attacks, but Matt is lured out by the Ozhin taking the form of his brother. Matt was hit by a car and killed as his last breath expires exactly when the app said.

Conclusion

However, Jordan was also injured in the attack and Quinn took her to the hospital, where she learned that Sullivan also harasses other female staff members. She realized that she could kill Sullivan and take the 57 years his Countdown app predicted for him. Quinn lures him into the closed-off wing and attacked him. But Sullivan is saved by Ozhin, who realizes what Quinn is doing. The Ozhin hunts down Jordan as Quinn searched for Sullivan.

Ozhin prepares to kill Jordan as her timer runs out but Quinn took overdose drugs, sacrificing herself to destroy the Ozhin. Then Jordan noticed that Quinn has written something on her arm, a circle and the word “Narcan”. Jordan revives her by syringe with Naloxone and they both succeeded as the countdown timers stop.

Jordan, Quinn and their father pay a visit to their mother’s grave. As they left, they heard the news about Sullivan’s arrest after more nurses came forward. Quinn discovers an update of the app has downloaded itself on her phone.

Derek is on a Tinder date. While his date went to the bathroom, Derek’s phone buzzes. He takes a looks at it and Countdown app says to him that he has broken the ‘user agreement’. The lights in the restaurant went out before he was attacked (and presumably killed) by the unseen Demon.
