Once again, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling home console in the United States in terms of unit sales in June 2021. However, the Xbox Series family of consoles had the best dollar sales performance. Indeed, June had the biggest dollar sales of Xbox hardware ever for a June month, surpassing the previous record set in June 2011.

The Nintendo Switch remained the best-selling console in the United States throughout the first half of 2021, both in terms of unit and dollar sales. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5 remains the fastest-selling console in US history, according to unit sales over its first eight months.

At the moment, supply constraints exist for all major consoles. Xbox’s strong performance in June coincided with the company’s E3 2021 briefing. Sony did not host one.

In June 2021, total hardware spending in the United States increased by a staggering 112 percent over June 2020, totaling $401 million. This was the greatest June hardware revenue since June 2008 ($617 million). Through June, total hardware spending in the United States hit $2.3 billion, up 45 percent from the same period last year, owing in part to the arrival of new consoles.

In terms of game sales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was the best-selling game in the United States in June 2021. Additionally, it set a new record for launch-month dollar sales for any title in the franchise, more than double the previous mark set by 2016’s Ratchet & Clank on PlayStation 4.

Nintendo’s Mario Golf: Super Rush was the third best-selling game overall in the United States in June 2021, and this does not include digital sales. Super Rush earned the biggest launch month revenue of any franchise game, surpassing Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour in July 2003.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was another notable mover in June 2021, climbing from 51st in May to 17th in June, owing in part to the arrival of the Switch edition. Additionally, due to the A Pirate’s Life update, Sea of Thieves climbed from 36th in May to inside the top 20 in June.

Spending on games totaled $4.319 billion in June 2021, a 1% rise year over year.

Total spending on accessories decreased by 1% to $207 million. Spending on accessories was $1.2 billion in the first half of 2021, up 14% year over year.

In June 2021, the black DualSense controller for the PS5 was the best-selling accessory overall, whereas the white version was the best-selling accessory in the first half of 2021.
