On My Block Season 4 is now complete! We went from watching Monse and the lads quarrel about getting the RollerWorld money, to attempting and failing numerous times to save Cesar from gang life, to surviving gunshots, visiting jails, and all the other things you don’t expect to go through in high school.
However, what is an adolescent drama without the disorder, romance, angst, and occasionally death? Even with the mystery, On My Block lived up to the components of a teen drama. It’s safe to assume that the show’s humorous components were provided by Jamal, Ruby, Jasmine, and, of course, Abuelita!
On The Block Season 4 Review
Although there were some irritating characters, such as Jasmine and Monse, the story succeeded in the end due to their character development. After being surrounded by boys for so long, we finally witness Monse blossom into herself. Moving to Mayfield provided her with the perfect opportunity to mature and move on. She finally found the opportunity to read her mother’s writing and attempt to make sense of her perplexing thoughts. Monse’s destiny has shifted for the better since discovering her mother had a second family after abandoning her and her father for years. Despite her return, we believed she was the glue that held the CoreFour together, when in fact it was Abuelita who kept the crew together the entire time.
Jasmine was first a bit obnoxious, but we began to understand her nature and why she supports everyone and is the way she is. Following her breakup with Ruby, she entered her self-care moment, understanding that she had always put Ruby’s ideas and feelings over her own, the most important person in her life at the moment. Additionally, we learn that she must forego her aspirations in order to care for her father. There are numerous adjectives that could be used to characterize Jasmine, but selfishness isn’t one of them! She declined Ruby’s prom invitation since she didn’t want to sully the occasion with her personal problems. It’s fascinating to observe how Jasmine and Monse’s lives grew after they abandoned males – perhaps this is a sign?
On My Block Season 4 Spoiler Alert
Jamal, our favorite character, underwent a fantastic character arc. He transitioned from being an odd and eccentric child to Mr. Popular and back again. It was a necessary growth since he matured significantly in order to discover his purpose. Cesar would almost certainly not be alive today if it weren’t for Jamal’s eccentricity and ambition to win the RollerWorld money! Although he believed Monse degraded him in front of her friends, the perspective shift was necessary for the necessary character development. He even serves as a reminder of the value of relationships, as demonstrated by his adoring bond with Abuelita. As is customary for Jamal, he carried the show on his back.
Ruby, another of our favorite characters, confronted his worries. From conversing with Latrell, expressing his emotions, and being honest with himself, Ruby had a critical role in acting as the boys’ temporary glue after Monse went for Mayfield. When we visit Latrell, it is Ruby’s trajectory that reminds us of the importance of life experiences – they grew up together, made different choices, and now have divergent paths and destinies. Apart from this, Ruby’s reputation as the drama king is what draws you to him.
Cesar was irritating throughout the series, but once his brother was murdered, he understood how much he needed Oscar, who was continuously watching out for him.
Oscar’s death forced Cesar to finally see the light and accept that life may change in less than a moment. Although it is unclear whether he ends up with Monse, in my mind, they are my endgame, regardless of how frustrating they can be.
It was worthwhile following their path, learning about their particular adolescent struggles, the awkward sequences but also the occasional charm that keeps you chuckling throughout, such as Jamal and Jasmine’s surprising relationship.
It was a bittersweet trip to follow, but it’s so comforting to know that the Core Four endured adversity yet never broke up, even during their worst moments.
