Real Madrid Kick Off La Liga Campaign With Win Amidst Injury Worries

Published on

Real Madrid started their La Liga campaign on a high note with a 2 nil victory away to Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio San Mames (Bilbao). This win for Real Madrid now see them extend their unbeaten record against Bilbao to 17 matches in the process. The match showcased the team’s attacking prowess and determination to reclaim the domestic title after finishing second last season.

Jude Bellingham Secure Win for Los Blancos

From the first blast of the whistle, Real Madrid displayed their intent to dominate the game. The gaffer, Carlo Ancellotti raised eyebrows with the exclusion of veteran midfield duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the starting line up rather both plays were on the bench. With the absence of Karim Benzema which was unavoidable, we could see a newly revamped Real Madrid squad with younger players. The midfield was marshalled by Eduardo Camavinga, new signing from Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham and Aurelin Tchouameni.

It took the visitors a little while to find their rhythm but an individual brilliance from Rodrygo put them in front just before the hour mark. The young Real Madrid stars began to find their rhythm and minutes later, English midfielder Jude Bellingham doubled the lead before the break. It wasn’t the best of strikes but Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon was beaten when the ball looped over him.

Bilbao, known for their physicality and defensive solidity, struggled to cope with Real Madrid’s relentless attacking prowess. The home side failed to mount any pressure on Los Blancos men apart from the penalty call when Unai Gomez was brought down. Ernesto Valverde and his lads will not let this defeat to Real Madrid define their season with a lot of games still left to play.

Two Real Madrid Stars to Undergo ACL Surgery

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left leg during a training session, Los Blancos confirmed. The Belgian shot stopper was left on a stretcher with tears in his eyes which showed the seriousness of the injury the moment it happened. It was confirmed afterwards that the goalkeeper will undergo surgery in the next coming days after sustaining the injury.

Following this development, Real Madrid swung into action to get a replacement and have signed Chelsea’s Kepa Arizaballaga on loan from Chelsea. In yesterday’s fixture, Eder Militao became the second player to suffer same injury as that of Thibaut Courtois and would require surgery as well.

Militao was left injured after he extended his knee in the first half of the 2 nil win over Athletic Bilbao. After tests were carried out, Los Blancos confirms that both players will be on the sidelines for a lengthy period of the season. This development now leaves Real Madrid with three defenders Nacho, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.

Overall, Real Madrid’s victory against Athletic Bilbao was a statement of intent. The team displayed their attacking prowess, defensive solidity, and determination to reclaim the La Liga title. While it is still early in the season, this victory will undoubtedly boost Real Madrid’s confidence and set the tone for the upcoming matches. The team will look to build on this strong start and maintain their winning momentum as they aim to dethrone Barcelona and reclaim the domestic crown.
