The Courier is a historical drama film that is directed by Dominic Cooke. This film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Greville Wynne.

Benedict is a British businessman who was called upon by the Secret Intelligence Service to send messages to secret agent Oleg Penkovsky that is played by Merab Ninide in the 1960s.

The Courier had its world premiere under its main title “Ironbark” at the Sundance Film Festival on the 24th of January 2020.

Production

Development: On the 1st of May 2018, they announced that FilmNation was producing Ironbark. Ironbark is a film about British spy Greville Wynne from a script by Tom O’Connor.

Dominic Cooke was to direct the film and also produce it together with Ben Pugh, Adam Ackland, O’Connor, Rory Aitken, Josh Varney, and Leah Clarke. The production company that was involved in the film is SunnyMarch.

Together with the initial production company announcement, it was made known that Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast as Greville Wynne.

Also, in October 2018, it was said that Jessie Buckley, Rachel Brosnahan, Angus Wright, Merab NinidZe together with Kirill Pirogov had joined the cast of the film.

The principal photography for The Courier began on the 15th of October, 2018 in London and ended on the 7th of December, 2018.

The Courier Release Date

The Courier held its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on the 24th of January, 2020 under the title “Ironbark”.

Just after Roadside Attractions together with Lionsgate gained U.S. distribution rights to the film.

Under the latest name, The Courier, this film was given an original theatrical release in the United States on the 28th of August, 2020.

But, it was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, to the 16th of October, 2020.

The film was later scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom and the United States of America on the 30th of October 2020. It was further delayed again to be released on the 19th of March 2021
