The Suicide Squad is an upcoming American superhero film and the film is based on the DC Comics team Suicide Squad. The 2021 film was produced by DC Films, The Safran Company, and Atlas Entertainment.

And it is set for distribution by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The upcoming 2021 film is intended to be a separate sequel to Suicide Squad of 2016. And the 10th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

This film was being written and directed by James Gunn and it features:

  • John Cena
  • Viola Davis
  • Sylvester Stallone
  • Peter Capaldi
  • Jai Courtney.

In this film, a task force of convicts was being sent to demolish a Nazi-era prison and laboratory as well.

David Ayer was set to come back as director for the Suicide Squad sequel by March 2016. However, in December, he rather chose to develop a Gotham City Sirens film.

Warner bros considered a lot of replacement directors before he hired Gavin O’Connor in September 2017.

By October 2018, he left, and they then hired Gunn to be the writer and the director of the film.

After he was fired temporarily by both Marvel Studios and Disney. As the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 of 2023.

He got some inspiration from war films and the 1980s Suicide Squad comics of John Ostrander. And then he decided to bring in new characters in a story different from the initial film narrative.

Though, some members of the cast do come back from Suicide Squad. The filming of the film started in Atlanta, Georgia in September 2019. And it ended in February 2020 in Panama.

The Suicide Squad 2021 is set to be released theatrically on the 30th of July, 2021 in the United Kingdom.

And on the 6th of August, in the United States of America. Both theatrically and on the streaming platform HBO Max.

A spin-off television series, Peacemaker, which features John Cena is scheduled to be released in January 2022 on HBO Max.

Premise

The imprisoned convicts of Belle Reve penitentiary were being sent as part of Task Force X. To the South American island of Corto Maltese to demolish Jotunheim.

Jotunheim is a Nazi-era prison laboratory that accommodated political prisoners and carried out experiments as well.
