The Witches is an American upcoming fantasy comedy movie. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis, and Zemeckis wrote the movie alongside Gullermo Del Toro and Kenya Barris. It is base on a novel written by Roald Dahl having the same name (The Witches).

The Witches Plot

The movie is remark and adaption of the 1990 movie starring Anjelica Huston based on the children’s book written by Roald Dahl in 1983.


It’s about Bruno, a seven years old boy, who met a group of witches fave to face. He lived with his grandma, and he was turned to a mouse by the Grand witch. Dahl hated the 1990 movie as it differed in his book at the ending of the movie. This new imagining 2020 The Witches is expected to take more root from the original source material.

The idea of making a new adaptation of The Witches Roald Dahl’s 1983 novel began in December 2008. This was when Guillermo Del Toro showed interest in making a stop motion movie.

There was no further development on the project until almost a decade in June 2018, then Robert Zemeckis was hired to write the script and also direct it. Zemeckis, Alfonso Cuaron will produce alongside Del Toro, adding to screenplay credit.

Zemeckis described the movie to be closer to the original source material compared to the 1990 version that Nicolas Roeg directed.


Official filming of the movie started on May 8, 2019, with the various location Alabama, Georgia and at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in Hertfordshire, England and Virginia Water Lake in Surrey, England. The movie was set to be a wrap on June 25. A crew member was stabbed in the neck on June 19, at the Warner Bros. Studios set in Leavesden.

Release Date.

In April 2019, the movie started filming in Alabama, Georgia an England. Later on June 19, the movie made headlines when a crew member got stabbed in the neck on set. This happened at the Werner Bros. Studio in Leabesden, Hertfordshire.

However, the movie is scheduled to be released in the UK and USA cinema on 16th October 2020
