Wonder Woman 1984 is an upcoming American Superhero film. The film is based on the DC Comic character Wonder Woman, it’s the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins and is the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

It stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, with Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nielsen in supporting roles.

However, it follows Diana as she faces off against Maxwell Lord and Cheetah. Wonder Woman is scheduled to be released in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures in Dolby, Cinema, IMAX 3D, IMAX, and Real 3D on October 2, 2020.

  • Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman: She is an immortal Demigoddess, Amazon Princess, and a Warrior. She is the daughter of Hippolyta (the Amazonian queen of Themyscira), and Zeus (the king of the Olympian Gods).
  • Chris Pine as Steve Trevor: He is an American pilot and the love interest of Diana and, he presumably died during the event of the first film.
  • Kristen Wiig as Barbara Ann Minerva / Cheetah: Barbara is an archaelogist who befriends Diana before becoming imbued with a cheetah-like appearance and abilities leading her into conflict against Diana.
  • Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord: He is a media businessman and entrepreneur who is famous for TV infomercial.
  • Robin Wright as Antiope: The general of the Amazon army, Diana’s aunt, and Hippolyta’s deceased sister.
  • Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta: Hippolyta is the queen of Themyscira and Diana’s mother.

Release

The release date has changed multiple times since it was announced. It initially set to premiere December 13, 2019, then moved to November 1, and then to June 5, 2020. The opening is delayed twice following the Covid-19 Pandemic, first pushed to August 14, the to October 2, 2020.

In the trailer, Wonder Woman is set 40 years later and puts Gal Gadot’s in the conflit of the Cold War. Diana lost many of her friends over the years, and on top of that faces a new vilian “Barbara Minerva”.

She is an archaeologist who by way of a lost city and an ancient ritual ends up channeling an ancient goddess known as Cheetah.
In the trailer, we also see the return of Steve Trevor, Diana’s long-lost love who sacrificed himself in the first film. How did he survive? No clues just yet.
